ALP Studio - Artwork & Designs
by Alexander Polyakov

Alexander Polyakov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia - the city built by the best European architects - and grew up immersed in its beauty and rich cultural heritage. Alex studied at two famous schools, Serov's Art School and St. Petersburg Theater Arts Academy. After graduation he worked as a theater artist for many famous theaters, including the Comedy Theater and the Drama Theater. His magic decorations are still remembered by those who came to see the productions.

In addition to theater and decorator's work, Alexander has been doing many oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, and graphics, in a unique style that can be described as "mystery in color".

After Alexander came to New York in 1993, he continued making theater decorations and interior designs.

« The upstage backdrop by Alexander "Sasha" Polyakov is fantastic. Sick, but fantastic. »

« Great credit should be given to designer Alexander "Sasha" Polyakov for the backdrop image of a courtroom filled with cartoon characters, with Dumbo's ears enveloping a little mermaid, a few little pigs and a couple of witches. »

Alexander started working with wood about 10 years ago. His hand-carved wooden nutcrackers and toys are unique both in design and in execution. Alex is the only artist who creates the nutcrackers like toys, with moving parts, unobtrusive handle hidden in the back when closed, and expressive faces bearing striking resemblance to their archetypes: historical figures and fairy tale characters.

Alexander's artwork has been displayed by many galleries in Europe and US. His paintings and toys have been recently sold through House Edelweiss in Texas, Zyzyx Gallery and Moriah Gallery in Maryland, and Christian Ulbricht's personal collections in Germany.
